It’s time to give back!

(Hier geht es zur deutschen Version)

We had the privilege of growing up in a social, safe and stable society. By deciding to take a career break, we began to share this privilege with others. Giving something back to our society without expecting anything in return now feels like the freest form of “working”. For a long time we wanted to work in order to live – instead of living in order to work. But how nice is living in order to work if it is simply the right work?

Quick help during Corona times in Jena

The Corona Pandemic brought us back home a little earlier than expected and showed us one thing above all: Even in our highly developed home country there are dozens of opportunities to get involved in the community – especially during the Corona crisis. We spontaneously signed up for the #JenaVsVirus-Hackathon and in less than 2 weeks, together with our team, we set up an online platform where citizens of our city can support their local retailers during the Corona crisis with voucher purchases: www.localgutscheining.de

Environmental protection on Borneo

On the tiny and paradisiacal island of Ara Dinawan off the coast of Malaysian Borneo, passionate environmentalists have once again made us aware of how much responsibility each individual bears for the preservation of our earth – and also in how many ways we can help. As volunteers with the Ara Dinawan Research, Education & Conservation Center (ADRECC), we learned how to rebuild damaged coral reefs, shot educational videos about how to treat our nature with love, established a waste management system for the island, planted over 70 trees and supported the project with its social media presence. Bamboo School Project in Laos

Khamla, our Laotian host, had a great idea: “If I can’t send my children to Europe, I’ll bring Europe to them.” Since then, he has been hosting volunteers from all over the world who can share their knowledge with his children and others. We gave English and Yoga classes, and we also helped construct a new school building. More about this HIER

Teaching in Nepal

It was one of our greater personal challenges to teach subjects such as biology, geography and sports in a language (namely English) that the students were also just learning. Especially for hobby pedagogues like us. The kids from the mountain village of Woyak, which was severely affected by the 2015 earthquake, made it easy for us and know now also learn a few classics of German schooling – such as playing dodgeball and singing “Brother Jacob” as a canon. We have summarized our experiences in this BLOG.

Public relations in Turkey

When the successful Turkish entrepreneur Hasan K. had a son with Down’s syndrome, this changed not only his everyday life, but also that of many mentally disabled people in Cappadocia. Hasan opened the non-profit “The Little Prince Academy”, which aims to help these people to master their everyday lives independently. We helped him to advance public relations, shot promo videos, optimized the homepage and – to our personal enrichment – learned from the visitors how easy happiness can be. You can find more information HERE.
